Living right here
Time is passing by silently, while my heart has never calmed down. The world is sometimes too big for you to reach its boundary, and sometimes it is so small like the small mood when a kitty is lying beside you. The reality and illusion of life is dwelling inside and outside.
The works of young painter Li You, who can always brings my thoughts into her delicate living environment, and provides me warm, flowing and dream like colors. Through her works, I can walk in her life without boundary. The diary-like expression has some literature style, which is simple but not dull, humorous and whimsical.
Li You looks like a porcelain doll. The images in her paintings are based on herself. Her major in university was print, but she likes to express her spirits by painting, which shows her aspiration for freedom and the adventure for the unknown world.
Living right here, in the summer of many dreams. Let’s experience the tranquil, warm and slowly flowing life in the colors of Li You.

Painting life
Avigdor Arikha once said:’ when you paint impromptu, what you need is to observe the essence of the object and to find the balance and harmony, and to spread it to the entire canvas like sea waves spreading out from the center. But you can’t do this the other way round…’
Most of Li You’s paintings are presented in a subtle and a dairy style, and are impromptu creations from the state of daily life. Family memebers, pets, houses appliances and those of different time and mood all have become models and reasons that Li You paints.
Li You doesn’t need reasons to paint. As long as she feels like it and senses the beauty she would paint. The structure of painting could seem rather casual and free: sometime she painted people, sometimes animals, others simple but lively sceneries. She uses a lot of pink in the entire picture, together with grey in all kinds of shade: yellow, red, blue and violet. The pictures are filled with a sense of life of a sensitive young woman.
Li You’s paintings are impromptu, free and real. I feel the simplest beauty from her seemingly simple and plain paintings. I always believe that one has to be gifted to be able to paint, because an artist has a unique understanding of beauty, which is bestowed by creator. The process of learn to paint is only the cultivation of one’s skill and ability. Hard work will help an artist with better and greater achievement. Li You is unique, and so is the beauty she presented in her works. I really look forward to see more of Li You’s works.
